Cáncer De Cuello Uterino.
El cuello uterino es también llamado cérvix uterino y es la parte más baja del útero (matriz), el cuello uterino comunica con la vagina y junto con ella forman el canal del parto. El cuello uterino tiene varias funciones pero una de las más importantes es mantenerse cerrado el tiempo que dura el embarazo y luego permitir a través de su dilatación la expulsión del feto al momento del parto.
El cáncer de cuello uterino se puede dar cuando las células de la superficie del cuello uterino empiezan a crecer sin control y llegan a formar una masa o tumor. Estos tumores pueden ser benignos o malignos que es cuando ya se diseminan a otras partes fuera del cuello uterino.
Para desarrollar cáncer de cuello uterino se necesita pasar necesariamente por una fase “precancerosa”, es decir las células del cuello uterino debieron experimentar anormalidades en su forma y tamaño para seguir luego creciendo en forma descontrolada y a eso es lo que hoy se le llama Displasia del cuello uterino. En está fase se pueden decidir conductas de tratamiento con el fin de prevenir el desarrollo de cáncer de cuello uterino y eso dependerá de los siguientes factores como los son:
- El tamaño de la lesión y el tipo de cambio que las células del cuello uterino han experimentado.
- El deseo de la mujer y de su pareja de tener hijos en el futuro.
- La edad de la mujer al momento del diagnóstico.
- El estado de salud de la mujer.
- La preferencia de la mujer y la opinión del médico tratante.
Se hablará de cáncer de cuello uterino si en algún momento estas células son ya de forma anormal y su crecimiento ya no tiene control y por lo mismo sobrepasaron el cuello uterino y se empezaron a diseminar a otras regiones.
Los dos tipos de cáncer de cuello uterino más frecuentes son:
- El carcinoma de células escamosas o epidermoide y constituye un 80-90% de los cánceres de cuello uterino y
- El Adenocarcinoma que constituye un 10-20% de los cánceres de cuello uterino.
Por lo anterior cualquier sospecha que exista de padecer este tipo de cáncer de cuello uterino es importante consultarlo a tiempo para recibir un tratamiento oportuno.
